Offline-first mobile app for field technicians
Field service mobile application engineered with offline data persistence, digital signature capture, and automated work orders.
Tech stack:
- Flutter
- SQLite
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- Google Cloud
The challenge
A field crew of 45 industrial technicians serviced mining sites, manufacturing plants, and substations where mobile connectivity was either unavailable or unreliable. Paper work orders forced technicians to spend hours manually typing notes into spreadsheets at the end of each shift. This caused illegible logs, misplaced sign-off forms, and delayed invoicing cycles by up to two weeks.
The technical solution
RG Systems engineered an offline-first mobile application using Flutter:
- Local SQLite Persistence with Smart Conflict Resolution: Service tickets, technical manuals, and inventory catalogs reside locally on the device. When connectivity resumes, a background engine synchronizes records with zero data collisions.
- Mandatory Compliance Checklists: Step-by-step audit forms enforcing mandatory timestamped photos at critical diagnostic checkpoints before unlocking client sign-off.
- On-device PDF Generation & Bluetooth Printing: Digital signature capture directly on the glass, enabling immediate physical receipts via mobile thermal printer or queued email delivery.
Operational results
- 100% operational continuity in zero-connectivity environments.
- Invoicing cycle accelerated from 12 days to under 24 hours.
- Complete elimination of lost work orders and manual transcription errors.
- 98% field adoption rate within two weeks of initial rollout.
